Theta Lambda Omega Through the Years

Theta Lambda Omega Chapter was chartered by sitting Regional Director Thelma Hollis on November 16, 1966 at the Holiday Inn in Pontiac, Michigan. It was the first African-American Women’s Greek-Letter organization initiated in the Pontiac area.

Cornelia Jackson along with several other Sorors organized an interest group known as the "AKTIVATORS" which became involved in the Pontiac community. They adopted the Golden Age senior citizen group, gave Thanksgiving baskets to the needy, supported a Toys for Tots project and sponsored the Bell Chorale in concert. With the cooperation and support of Eta Iota Omega Chapter in Inkster, Michigan, Theta Lambda Omega was chartered in 1966.

Over the years, Theta Lambda Omega has initiated and maintained many activities contributing to the advancement of the Pontiac community. Among them are Ivy AKAdemy tutorials, On Track, AKA JADE, AKA GEMS, AND AKA Teens. The chapter also hosts an annual Debutante Scholarship Cotillion, the largest in the State of Michigan, which has assisted hundreds of youth in their efforts to secure higher education, participate in cultural and education enrichment activities, while serving the community.

Theta Lambda Omega honors its Ivies Beyond the Wall by awarding an annual scholarship to a student in the Pontiac School District. The chapter has won first place honors as "Outstanding Graduate Chapter", for its size, in the Great Lakes Region since the 1980’s.
